My best friend (Sarah Wilson) launched Axo Gallery on Queen Charlotte St in Edinburgh at the weekend, her opening event was circus themed. A magnificent event featuring art, popcorn, video, clowns, installations, alcohol, puppets and a big brass band. Wasn’t really a big brass band, it was a regular band who seemed to have an attachment to The Jam. Two of my Jackets made an appearance at the event (pictured above) and I used my access to Dundee REP’s wardrobe store to make up my costume. A good night was had by all.
I have also set up a new business, Two Dolls, with another friend (Zoe Venditozzi). Zoe and I have come together to create a hub for cross-disciplinary networking and creative endeavours. Providing writers, artists and makers with space for collaboration, networking, and performance. We will also provide retail space to sell artists’ work. Check us out on Facebook, Twitter and http://thosetwodolls.blogspot.com/p.s. don’t know what’s going on with the font, can’t get it to stay a uniform size!

http://www.dundeereptheatre.co.uk/p2s163.html#gallery6 months ago I started working at Dundee Rep Theatre and it has been the best 6 months of my working life. You can check out my most recent handy work for them at the above link. The shawl for Irene Macdougall’s character was my first substantial piece of costume i have made as part of the wardrobe department. I am hoping to contribute a waistcoat to forthcoming Sweeney Todd.As for the artwork, not much has been happening on that front, I have been adjusting to life with a “proper” job and a child at school but i do hope to be getting back to it very soon. Once the studio’s had a good old tidy, i’ll be raring to go. I do have a piece of work in Generator, Mid Wynd Industrial Estate, Dundee until the 25th of April. The exhibition is well worth a visit.

Work has been very much admin based since the beginning of the year. I have been filling in proposals and funding applications to get my project under way. This, i believe, is the life of an artist. I did manage to make this house, it looks exactly as I wanted but is increadibly unstable. Not the best bit of joinery I can tell you. Unsure as to how I will actually get it out of my house without it falling apart!
I am also making plans for some workshops to create a body of tales from mothers. We will be having a trial workshop in the next couple of weeks to see how it goes. I am also trying to collect some stories of lost virginity from ex schoolmates to be part of the Cupar Arts Festival ‘09. If you went to Bell Baxter and you would like to help with my story collection or want to be kept updated about the mother workshops please contact me through my site. Ta

Today I received some exciting news that I will receive funding to buy a camera to document my current project from Fife council.
The project I received funding for is a cross-disciplinary, artwork, where a narrative will be told using performers, costume, visual art and music. The performance will happen on the opening night, after which the set, costumes etc, will be left as an art installation. The music will be programmed into a computer, which will feed to Nintendo Wii remotes used by the performers to create the melody for the narrative.
The concepts behind my work are motherhood, the domestic and fairytales and I plan to involve the local community within different stages of the project, using those subjects. I want to have a call for mothers to come and exchange stories, either written or oral. I may also have discussion groups (actual and virtual) about the relevance of fairytales within their children’s lives. How do they feel about the role of women within these tales? By having workshops/discussions I aim to make visual art more assessable to mothers, creating a new audience for the visual arts sector. I also hope to create a wider understanding and appreciation of the work that goes into creating art.
